Greenpeace Policy Rating
The Greenpeace Policy Rating are score marks out of 51, which are then translated to a scale of 0 to 10 for simplicity. For example, as of October 2010, Nokia received a score of 38/51, which translates to 7.5. Ratings are not given to individual products but to companies as a whole, with higher numbers being better.
Guide to Greener Electronics
Greenpeace international releases an annual list called the "Guide to Greener Electronics", in which it ranks various electronic companies based on their policies towards toxic chemicals, recycling and climate change. "This Guide ranks leading mobile phone, TV and PC manufacturers on policies and practices to: reduce their impact on the climate; produce greener products; and make their operations more sustainable."[1]
The guide ranks the 18 top manufacturers of personal computers, mobile phones, TVs and games consoles according to their policies on toxic chemicals, recycling and climate change.[2]
Three goals for this guide are to get companies to:
- Clean up their products by eliminating hazardous substances.
- Take back and recycle their products responsibly once they become obsolete.
- Reduce the climate impacts of their operations and products.
